Devotion! 2011

I am not sure if I have shared this with  you guys but this is an installation I did for  the New World school of the Arts gallery  called "The cry of Demeter" in 2011.  It is inspired by the myth of Demeter and her daughter Persephone  who is kidnapped into the underworld by Hades and is kept there for at least 6 months of the year and 6 months back on earth with her Mother.  Being the goddess of harvest, Demeter, "silences" her devotion to the earth while her daughter is away . Once she is back, the Goddess nourishes and freshens the earth to celebrate her return.  I wrote it out of a broken heart at one point in my life...heart break between my spirit and I. I felt disconnected, as if something had taken it(her) from me.
The work is a pair of legs made from wrapped in burlap and they are detached from a form. The legs are ascending a staircase made of plywood.  The absecnce of the body is important because it is in the  "formlessness" that the words of this poem were inspired. It is a reminder for me, how important the connection of Spirit and Body is but more so the Spirit. The staircase, is a metaphor for  reaching a higher place in another realm, for me it is the Mind. Enjoy!

BLURRED- self portrait series 2009

This series are SELF PORTRAITS of me in front of a television and just working with the lack of light  in the room and the exaggerated amount of light from the large screen...I call it BLURRED because too much information(light) for the camera is basically just a white screen and too much information from the media sometimes just "blurs " or overwhelms us that we can't really see/think clearly anymore. enjoy!

Cloudy

These are digitally manipulated images of portraits and clouds...It has to do with my cloudy vision at the time. I am was not sure where I was going in my art  path and clouds usually symbolize foggy mind, blissfulness, and/or "opportunity to play  the game of perception"  WHAT DO WE SEE? Anyways, this is really about my cloudy head but I liked the images, therefore found them interesting enough to post. Another big reference in photography would be Alfred Stieglitz " Equivalents" cloud series...but I won't get into that. :) Enjoy!

Tricia the Dancing Star

This is a photomontage of a photo shoot  made in 2009 and  edited 2012....so the the actual work is finished in 2012. Here is the vintage again, geometric and abstracted shapes that a mirror-image creates on it's own,;) Enjoy!

Portraits of Christopher- Winter 2012

This shoot was in my apt with my neighbor Chris. Just wanted to have fun with a guy and a vintage nightgown. You can  call these portraits of Christopher:

Here we are playing with movement and long exposure, pun intended ;)

Enjoy!
